[Briefing #2] Internet governance in February 2014

Our previous webinar provided an overview of January’s developments and an insight into February’s expectations.

We will reflect on February’s IG warm-up, including:

• The European Commission’s position on Internet governance (suggested background reading).
• The Brazil and EU initiative on the new submarine cable connection between the two continents.
• The ITU’s involvement with the NETmundial conference.
• Highlights from the Open Consultation and the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
• Developments with the ITU WSIS+10 process.
• Other relevant emerging threads, such as 'The Day We Fight Back' initiative, challenges with the BitCoin regulation, and results of the 2nd meeting of ICANN's HL Panel on GICGM.
• News from the GIP: the launch of two books on IG, a briefing for Geneva missions about a just-in-time course on IG, and a gathering of postgraduate students of College of Europe and local diplomatic community in Geneva to discuss IG.

We will look ahead to March:

• ICANN’s regular meeting in Singapore, 23-27 March.
• NETmundial preparations and the extended deadline for contributions.
• /1net developments towards NETmundial.
• Plans for the GIP: Session on human rights and cybersurveillance at the Geneva International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights, the online course in IG for diplomats, and strengthening the GIP website with resources.
