[Update] Event report: The workshop emphasised how big data analytics can reinforce the security for crime and terrorism, biotechnology, trafficking, and supply chains security. The risks of using big data, such as the misuse and leakage of data and legal challenges on protection of data were also highlighted. Recommendations on creating innovative products where security and privacy are designed, and providing training and cooperation in big data analytics to ensure the security of humans, were mentioned during the workshop.

Event announcement

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) will organise a Workshop on Using Big Data Analytics to Reinforce Security, on 4-5 July 2016, at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland. The workshop is aimed to provide a platform for discussions on how big data nalytics can be used to address problems in different security related areas. It will bring together experts from the field of big data analytics, security, and industry, as well as representatives of international organisations and UN member states. The agenda of the workshop will include five sessions on: big data analytics and policing for crime and terrorism; big data analytics and life sciences; big data analytics and illicit trafficking; big data analytics and supply chain security; and risk related to the use of big data analytics. |full_html
