UN Security Council Informal Meeting on the Impact of Emerging Technologies on International Peace and Security

17 May 2021

New York, NY

On May 17, the United Nations Security Council will convene an Arria-formula Meeting on The Impact of Emerging Technologies on International Peace and Security at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

During China's presidency at the Security Council for the month of May, China has emphasised that firmly upholding and practicing multilateralism to support the United Nations will be playing a central role in the work of the Council. The meeting  will provide an opportunity for the international community 'to gain a deeper understanding of emerging technologies, pay more attention to their impacts on international peace and security, and prevent and mitigate potential risks and challenges.' This meeting will be the first time that the United Nations Security Council addresses this topic. Prior to the meeting, China will convene a high-level briefing on 14 May with the theme of 'Maintenance of international peace and security: Upholding multilateralism and the UN-centered international system'.

More information can be read in the official announcement.
