Freedom Online Conference 2015

4 May 2015 - 5 May 2015

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

[Update] Reporting from the conference: Human rights in focus during Freedom Online Conference in Mongolia

Once a year, the Freedom Online Coalition holds a multistakeholder conference that aims to deepen the discussion on how freedom of expression on the Internet is helping to promote social, cultural and economic development. The next next annual Freedom Online conference will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on 4-5 May 2015.

The conference offers an open platform for discussion among all stakeholders – governments, civil society, the private sector, and others – to share relevant information, develop joint strategies and combine efforts towards their mutual goal of a human rights based Internet. It also offers a space for civil society to discuss issues of concern and share their perspectives on an equal footing with key governments. This is encouraged through funding packages provided by the Coalition and aimed especially at civil society participants from the global South, and the region in which the respective conference is taking place.

Previously held by the Netherlands, Kenya, Tunisia, and most recently Estonia, the chairmanship of the Freedom Online Coalition has now passed on to Mongolia. At the 2014 annual Freedom Online Conference in Tallinn, Mongolian Foreign Minister Luvsanvandan Bold confirmed his country as the first Asian member to chair the Coalition. The Freedom Online Coalition member states unanimously welcomed Mongolia as the incoming chair and have expressed their support for the next annual Freedom Online conference in Mongolia.
