Devising and Implementing a National Cyber Security Strategy

The Geneva Centre for Security Policy will organise a course on 'Devising and implementing a national cyber security strategy', on 2–6 October 2017, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The course is aimed at consolidating the participants' knowledge of cybersecurity and its role in creating crisis resilience at different levels of society. To this aim, it will examine the key elements required to devise a national cybersecurity strategy, while also covering how to design action plans to implement such a strategy, while keeping it relevant. 

Through case studies, presentations, and sharing of best practices, emphasis will be put on four aspects of strategy formulation and implementation process:

• Analysis: How to analyse existing cyber threats, and how to assess risk and gauge key vulnerabilities.
• Planning: How to create a national vision and action plan, and how to elaborate different planning processes.
• Decision making: How to facilitate political decision making, how to ensure decision making during a cyber crisis, and how to achieve situational awareness.
• Implementation: How to implement a strategy, how to create an action plan for implementation, and how to measure levels of resilience.

The course is open to civilian and military cyber experts engaged in cybersecurity policy formulation, staff of international organisations, representatives from the private sector, and non-governmental organisations dealing with cybersecurity issues.
