Decision-making in Standard Developing Organisations for the Internet

The workshop on 'Decision-making in standard developing organisations for the Internet' will be held on 25 April, in Brussels, Belgium.

Organised by the University of Exeter, the University of Salford, the University of Warwick, and the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC), the workshop is part of a three-year ESRC project investigating decision-making in standard developing organisations with no state involvement. The aim of the event is to explore decision-making as a process and focus on different approaches and actors rather than technical detail. 

The programme will start with a plenary sesison focusing on internal decision-making processes in the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This will be followed by two break-out sessions. The first will look at how external actors, namely the state and civil society, affect standard developing organisations preferences. The second will cover current standard debates: solutions for the mobile web, open standards and patented software, and security and privacy.
