The sixth annual meeting of the African Internet Governance Forum will be held on 4–6 December 2017, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The event will be organised with the support of the National Telecom Regulatory Autorithy of Egypt. 

Under the theme ‘Enabling an inclusive digital transformation of Africa’, the meeting will include:

  • A high-level session focused on the policy implications of digitalisation as an enabler of an inclusive digital transformation. 
  • Plenary sessions on: Promoting digital Africa: Internet economy; Digital transformation: How do we shape its social and labor impacts?; Empowering global cooperation on cybersecurity for sustainable development and peace; Emerging issues; Review and approval of the African IGF Charter; National and regional initiatives; Local interventions: Thriving in DNS industry and maximising the opportunites of dotAfrica; and The African Union Declaration on Internet governance and capacity building efforts on the continent.

Other topics to be discussed include: the role of the DNS as a technology in Internet policy, connecting the next billion, the role of youth in enabling digital transformation, Internet freedoms, cybersecurity, and Internet Exchange Points.

The event is expected to bring together participants from government, private sector, academia, research institutions, technical community, civil society organisations, media, and other stakeholders from over 30 countries.
