Mr Mihailo Jovanovic (Director of the Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment, Government of the Republic of Serbia) closed the 2nd Western Balkans Digital Summit, held as part of Digital Week Serbia. Jovanovic called the Summit an example of regional collaboration initiated by the Berlin Process. The Summit lasted for two days and had three parallel tracks during which 206 speakers spoke at 73 presentations and panels. 4000 participants from 30 economies registered for the Summit. More than 80 companies participated in the presentation, over 50 of which were startups, while 20 companies set up booths at the venue.
On the first day of the Summit, the six economies of the Western Balkans signed the regional agreement on reducing roaming prices. Serbia and Montenegro also signed a bilateral agreement on mutual recognition of qualified trust services.
Jovanovic stated that the exchanging knowledge and ideas, establishing connections and enabling digital services on a regional level are crucial for the development of the six economies, as well as the region itself.
Jovanovic then passed the floor to Ms Dorina Cinari (Deputy Minister – Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, Albania) therefore ceremonially transferring over the organisation of the next year’s edition of Western Balkans Digital Summit. Cinari proceeded to invite participants to attend the 3rd Western Balkans Digital Summit in Tirana, Albania in 2019.
