ICANN86 will be held from 8 to 11 June 2026 in Seville, Spain, as part of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ series of public meetings that support its multistakeholder governance processes.

The event is designated as a Policy Forum, one of three annual ICANN Public Meetings that rotate among global regions and provide a venue for policy discussions, outreach, community engagement, and interactions among participants from the ICANN community, organisation leadership and the broader internet ecosystem.

The agenda focuses on the core policy and operational issues currently shaping the internet’s domain name system. A major theme is preparations for the next round of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs), with discussions on application processes, safeguards, support mechanisms, and community readiness. DNS abuse is another central topic, featuring multiple sessions on mitigation measures, registration data, compliance, and the emerging impact of AI on abuse detection and prevention.

The programme also examines broader internet infrastructure and governance issues, including domain name resilience, DNSSEC, root server operations, internationalised domain names, universal acceptance, and regulatory developments affecting country-code domains. Alongside policy work, stakeholder groups will hold constituency and membership meetings, while governments will coordinate positions and draft their final communiqué.

The meeting also places a strong emphasis on community development and capacity building through fellowship and NextGen programmes, technical workshops, regional networking sessions, and introductory discussions aimed at helping participants better understand ICANN’s role in managing the internet’s unique identifier systems.

Policy Outlook Report has been published to support participants’ preparation, offering a high-level overview of the key activities and expected developments
