Space Sustainability Forum (SSF-25)

On 7–8 October 2025, the ITU will host the Space Sustainability Forum (SSF-25), gathering experts, regulators, industry leaders, and policy makers to address the long-term health, security and governance of outer space. Hosted at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, the programme includes a pre-event short course (6 October) on national space regulation and policy offered by the Digital Regulatory Academy of Saudi Arabia.
On Day 1, the sessions explore how space applications contribute to societal goals (“Space for Good”), developments in satellite services, the legal and regulatory dimensions of exploration (e.g. moon missions), and the challenge of governing large constellations. A spotlight presentation will introduce the Argus project, which monitors non-geostationary satellite deployments.
Day 2 will feature a regulators’ roundtable over breakfast, followed by panels on direct-to-device communications (satellite connectivity directly to mobile terminals), and strategies for resilience in space systems. Throughout both days, discussions will also delve into topics such as spectrum coordination, space traffic management, and the ITU’s role in managing orbit and frequency resources.
A short course on 6 October provides contextual grounding: Attendees will gain an overview of national space law and policy frameworks before the main forum begins.
The Space Sustainability Forum 2025 offers a neutral, cross-sectoral platform for dialogue on sustaining outer space as a safe, accessible, and equitable domain.
