Policy Reports
Summary
The eTrade for All initiative, launched at UNCTAD’s 14th Ministerial Conference in July 2016, aims to harness the digital economy to support the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, particularly SDGs 5, 8, 9, and 17. This initiative seeks to enhance awareness, create synergies, and scale up international development efforts to help developing countries engage in and benefit from e-commerce. It focuses on seven key policy areas: e-commerce readiness assessment, ICT infrastructure, trade logistics, payment solutions, legal frameworks, access to finance, and skill development. Rapid assessments are conducted at the request of countries to analyze their current e-commerce landscape and identify opportunities and challenges. These reports are intended to aid countries, especially Least Developed Countries (LDCs), in participating in global discussions on e-commerce and the digital economy and in identifying areas where they could benefit from eTrade for All partners’ assistance. The rapid assessment of Madagascar’s e-commerce readiness is the fifteenth of its kind by UNCTAD and the seventh in Africa, aiming to support Madagascar in building a robust, secure, and business-friendly e-commerce ecosystem. UNCTAD and its partners are committed to continuing their support for Madagascar in leveraging e-commerce for development.
