The ICT Vision 2030 for Suriname lays out a comprehensive blueprint for a digitally enabled society. It envisions creating an interconnected world where innovative information and communication technologies drive sustainable growth, inclusivity, and development across all facets of society. At its core, the vision seeks to empower every citizen of Suriname through the integration of advanced ICT systems into the social, political, economic, and environmental spheres, fostering equitable access and participation.

Suriname’s ICT strategy emphasises the balance between business, organisational, and information system strategies to ensure successful implementation and adaptability in a dynamic environment. The synergy of these strategies is fundamental to enabling transformative economic growth through ICT. With a focus on enhancing productivity, reducing transaction costs, and improving educational standards, the ICT Vision seeks to increase the competitiveness of local businesses in a knowledge-based economy.

The mission underscores the importance of universal, affordable access to ICT networks and applications to spur inclusive development. By prioritising efficiency, transparency, accountability, and people-centred service delivery, the framework aims to build trust among stakeholders and foster collaboration across sectors.

Strategic goals:

  • Innovation: Enabling cutting-edge ICT solutions in telecommunications to catalyze societal transformation. This involves advancing technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and digital services like e-health and e-education.
  • Inclusiveness: Bridging the digital divide by ensuring broadband access for all, with a particular focus on marginalized communities, promoting gender equality in ICT use, and fostering accessible technologies for people with disabilities.
  • Growth: Increasing the availability and usage of ICT services to build a robust digital economy, with targets for broadband penetration and interactive digital services.
  • Continuity and sustainability: Managing risks and opportunities arising from rapid technological advancements while ensuring the resilience of ICT systems through policies on cybersecurity, privacy, and disaster preparedness.
  • Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships among government entities, private sector stakeholders, and international organizations to achieve cohesive ICT development.

The roadmap for achieving this vision includes implementing secure and inclusive ICT infrastructure, fostering digital innovation, and aligning ICT policies with the sustainable development goals (SDGs). By focusing on quality education, healthcare access, industrial innovation, and gender equality, Suriname’s ICT Vision 2030 aims to contribute significantly to national and global development agendas.
