Germany’s National Digital Decade strategic roadmap
July 2024
Strategies and Action Plans
Germany’s strategic roadmap for the Digital Decade, developed by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, outlines the goals to be achieved by 2030 and the measures needed to meet them. Using data from the 2023 Digital Decade Report, the roadmap compares Germany’s performance to EU benchmarks and targets for digital skills by 2030.
The roadmap is divided into four chapters:
- Digital Competencies
- Digital Infrastructure
- Digital Transformation of Businesses
- Digitalisation of Public Services
Several measures are underway to boost digital skills, with a focus on education through Germany’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. This includes initiatives like the Digital Pact School, AI Campus, and the National Continuing Education Strategy.
Key challenges include the need for more investment in education, improved digital tools for educators, and support for self-directed learning. Additionally, Germany must prepare for the ethical use of AI in education.
