World Telecommunication Development Conference

The World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-17) will be held on 9-20 October 2017, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and will be hosted by the Government of Argentina.

World telecommunication development conferences are convened in the period between two International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conferences to consider topics, projects, and programmes relevant to telecommunications development. WTDCs set the strategies and objectives for the development of telecommunications/ICT, providing future direction, and guidance to the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D). 

The theme of WTDC-17 is ‘ICT for Sustainable Development Goals’Expected outcomes of the conference include a Declaration reinforcing the political support for the mission and strategic objectives of ITU-D; an ITU-D Contribution to the ITU Strategic Plan for 2020-2023; and an ITU-D Action Plan comprising regional initiatives, new and revised resolutions and recommendations to support the fulfilment of the Sector’s objectives, and new and revised Questions to be studied by ITU-D study groups.

Delegations can submit contributions in preparation fo rthe conference, and the final deadline for submissions is 25 September. 

Fellowships may be granted for WTDC-17 to delegates from least developed countries (LDCs) and developing countries with a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of less than USD 2000. The deadline for applications is 9 August.
