Catalan planning a decentralised digital ID project

The government of Catalan is in the process of implementing a €550,000 decentralised digital ID project. The Catalan Minister for Digital Policy and Public Administration, Jordi Puigneró stated that the app, known as IdentiCAT would be in use by 2020. IdentiCAT will be fully decentralised, giving users autonomy over their data. It will employ blockchain technology and distributed ledgers. It will work alongside other identity systems.
