Saudi Arabia includes new updates to Personal Data Protection Law

Saudi Arabia has confirmed updates to its Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), which came into force in March 2020. The amendments include changes to the definition of sensitive personal data, new rules for processing personal data, and increased fines for violations.

Saudi Arabia has confirmed updates to its Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), which came into force in March 2020. The amendments include changes to the definition of sensitive personal data, new rules for processing personal data, and increased fines for violations. The updates also clarify the role of the Data Protection Authority and strengthen data subjects’ rights, including the right to access and correct their personal data.

The updates aim to provide greater protection for personal data in line with international standards and to enhance the country’s digital economy. The updates will come into effect on 10 May 2023.
