Early this year, ransomware group BlackCat, also known as ALPHV, hacked into Reddit servers, which was confirmed by Reddit in February. The group is now threatening to leak the stolen data.

The BlackCat groups’ leak site claims that the group stole 80GB of zipped data. It is unclear if 80 GB is the compressed or uncompressed size. The threat actors say they attempted to contact Reddit twice, on 13 April and 16 June, demanding $4.5 million for the data to be deleted, as well as the scrapping of API pricing changes from Reddit. As the group did not receive a response, it expects it will leak the data. The group did not encrypt any devices during the attack.
