Meta funds AI glasses applications for accessibility and work
Thirty US organisations will share nearly $2 million through Meta AI glasses grants supporting practical community projects.
Meta has awarded nearly US$2 million in grants to 30 organisations developing practical applications for its AI-powered smart glasses, supporting projects focused on accessibility, workplace safety, education, agriculture and economic opportunity.
The recipients, selected from nearly 500 applicants across 18 US states, will receive either Accelerator Grants to expand existing projects or Catalyst Grants to develop new applications using Meta’s Device Access Toolkit.
The selected projects illustrate a growing range of enterprise and accessibility uses for AI glasses. They include hands-free safety guidance for construction workers and roadside repair technicians, assistive technologies for people with dementia or mobility impairments, crop monitoring for farmers, language-learning tools and voice-controlled applications for contractors.
According to Meta, the projects demonstrate how wearable AI can provide contextual information while allowing users to keep their hands free and remain focused on their surroundings.
Five Catalyst Grant recipients are expected to integrate their applications with Ray-Ban Meta glasses later in 2026.
The programme will also bring recipients together in New York from 27 to 29 July for technical workshops, demonstrations and collaboration.

The programme reflects a broader shift in wearable AI from consumer-focused devices towards practical tools for work, accessibility and public services. As smart glasses become more capable, developers are increasingly exploring applications that support hands-free access to information in real-world environments.
The initiative also highlights the governance challenges accompanying wearable AI. Wider adoption will depend not only on technical performance but also on privacy protections, transparency around data collection and whether these technologies remain affordable and accessible beyond pilot projects.
