Cut Undersea Cable Plunges Yemen Into Days-Long Internet Outage

Yemen with 28 million citizens lost access to the internet along with the Red Sea region which experienced slow to nonexistent connectivity due to a cut of an undersea cable. Multiple submarine cables usually serve different regions to provide redundancy as the undersea conditions lead to breaks and cuts in individual cables. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Ethiopia along with Comoros and Tanzania were all affected by the Falcon cable cut but in Yemen’s case there was an 80% drop in available capacity.
