Growing investment in University of Edinburgh spinouts shows data and AI companies driving jobs, innovation and long-term impact, even as global funding conditions remain challenging.

Edinburgh Innovations reported strong spinout growth, with most new companies focused on data and artificial intelligence. Spinouts received £56 million from £113 million total investment.

Innovation activity was grouped around health, climate and digital priorities. Findings show 65 per cent of newly formed staff and student companies align with data, digital and AI for good.

UK deep tech trends remain strong despite global investment challenges. University spinouts have generated over 1,200 jobs, confirming Edinburgh’s role as a leading innovation hub outside the Golden Triangle.
