Louisiana AI hub takes shape as Meta marks progress on Hyperion data centre

The Hyperion facility is positioned as a core part of Meta’s future AI training and infrastructure plans.

Meta deepens AI infrastructure push with multi-gigawatt data centre in Louisiana.

Meta has marked one year since construction began on its Richland Parish data centre in Louisiana, which will host its largest multi-gigawatt AI training cluster, Hyperion. The facility is positioned as a central pillar of Meta’s long-term AI infrastructure strategy.

Over the past year, Meta said it has contracted more than $875 million with Louisiana-based businesses, working mainly with regional suppliers. Construction is led by Turner Construction Company, DPR Construction, and Mortensen Construction across the four-million-square-foot campus.

The project currently supports around 3,700 construction workers, with the workforce expected to peak at 5,000 by mid-2026. Once operational, the data centre is expected to create more than 500 permanent roles across technical, engineering, safety, and facilities teams.

Meta said it has coordinated with local utility Entergy to meet the facility’s energy needs without increasing electricity costs for other customers. The company said related grid investments are expected to reduce charges over time and support clean energy initiatives.

Beyond energy, Meta outlined investments in water efficiency, ecosystem restoration, and local infrastructure such as roads and water systems. Additional funding has been directed toward education, workforce development, and community programmes in the region.
