DCO to tackle online misinformation through collaboration
Emphasising the need for collaboration, the DCO and participants discussed innovative strategies to enhance trust in the digital economy.
The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) recently hosted a strategic roundtable discussion on online misinformation’s societal impact. The event brought representatives from major technology companies, including Google, LinkedIn, Meta, and TikTok, to the DCO headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The primary aim was to explore misinformation’s challenges and propose innovative solutions to enhance trust in the digital economy.
A key theme of the roundtable was the importance of collaboration in combating misinformation. The DCO emphasised its commitment to a multistakeholder approach, recognising that a united front is essential for addressing the complexities of misinformation. Participants underscored the need for ongoing dialogue and cooperation to foster a more informed and resilient digital society. Alaa Abdulaal, Chief of the Digital Economy Foresight at the DCO, highlighted the invaluable exchange of ideas during the discussions and the critical role of collaboration in tackling this pressing issue.
In addition to discussing strategies for combating misinformation, participants expressed their dedication to maintaining user trust and ensuring the quality of information on their platforms. Sarah Al-Husseini, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google, emphasised the company’s commitment to providing users with high-quality information and the importance of adapting policies to prevent misinformation.
The organisation aims to continue building a trustworthy digital landscape by promoting partnerships and prioritising information integrity and user trust in future initiatives.
