Nokia has announced a new partnership with Telecom Egypt to introduce 5G technology in Egypt for the first time. The collaboration will revolutionise the country’s telecommunications landscape, bringing the transformative power of 5G to cities such as Alexandria, Aswan, Cairo, Giza, and Luxor. Nokia will deploy its extensive AirScale portfolio, which includes Massive MIMO radios and baseband units, to enhance network performance and capacity for Telecom Egypt’s customers.

The agreement includes deploying Nokia’s 5G radio access network (RAN) equipment, featuring energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. This technology will ensure extensive 5G coverage and capacity, enabling seamless connectivity and supporting various applications and services. Nokia will also provide professional services for deployment, integration, and network optimisation.

Telecom Egypt secured the country’s first 5G license earlier this year, which was valid for 15 years. Mohamed Al Fowey, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Telecom Egypt, stated that the partnership with Nokia positions the company at the forefront of the 5G revolution, offering enhanced mobile broadband and new applications. Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, highlighted that this collaboration lays a strong foundation for Egypt’s digital transformation, opening new opportunities for people and businesses to experience improved mobile connectivity.
