République togolaise: Evaluation rapide de l’état de préparation au commerce électronique
October 2018
Policy Reports
Summary
The eTrade for All initiative, launched at UNCTAD’s 14th Ministerial Conference in July 2016, aims to support the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda by helping developing countries engage in and benefit from e-commerce. The initiative focuses on seven key areas: e-commerce readiness assessment, ICT infrastructure, trade logistics, payment solutions, legal frameworks, access to finance, and skill development. It includes rapid assessments requested by countries to analyze their current e-commerce status and identify opportunities and challenges. These assessments contribute to discussions on e-commerce and the digital economy, particularly benefiting Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
The rapid assessment of Togo’s e-commerce readiness is the eleventh conducted by UNCTAD and the second within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), following Senegal in July 2018. Other countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, have also requested assessments. These evaluations aim to provide recommendations for national and regional progress and contribute to a regional plan supporting the strategic importance of e-commerce, as recognized by WAEMU Ministers in September 2017. A regional workshop in Ouagadougou in October 2018 will further identify priorities and promote necessary actions for e-commerce development in the region.
