Cette discussion s'est tenue dans le cadre du Forum du SMSI 2026, et a été animée par Hao Liu qui a tout d'abord invité tous les participants à partager leurs idées et a rappelé à l'assistance que chaque intervention ne devait pas dépasser trois minutes . Il a présenté la session comme la suite d'une discussion de l'année précédente sur l'éducation à l'IA, comparant les expériences européennes et chinoises , et a donné la parole à Jovan Kurbalija de DiploFoundation pour initier la séance . --- #

Deux modes fondamentaux d'apprentissage

Jovan Kurbalija a ouvert la discussion en expliquant que tout au long de l'histoire humaine, l'apprentissage a reposé sur deux méthodes fondamentales . La première est la transmission - apprendre en observant des maîtres - qui, selon lui, sous-tend tout, de la construction de la Grande Muraille de Chine aux pyramides d'Égypte . DiploFoundation a traduit cela en ce qu'elle appelle l'apprentissage par l'IA, où les participants apprennent à connaître l'IA en développant activement des outils d'IA . Le second mode est la narration : la construction et le partage de récits, que ce soit autour d'un feu, dans un mémoire de master ou dans un article académique . Plutôt que de condamner ce comportement, il l'a reconnu comme naturel : « si la pédagogie n'est pas associée au comportement de bon sens des gens, c'est qu'elle n'est pas bonne » . Sa question, posée ouvertement à la salle, était de savoir si l'érosion de la narration en tant que compétence humaine constitue un véritable problème . Il a soutenu que c'est probablement le cas, car construire un récit oblige l'auteur à réfléchir aux ouvertures, aux tensions et à la structure - des processus cognitifs qui sont court-circuités lorsque l'IA génère le texte . --- #

La narration comme source de motivation et la tradition chinoise

Hao Liu a répondu en affirmant que la narration revêt une importance capitale dans l'histoire chinoise également, confirmant ainsi la résonance interculturelle du cadre de Jovan Kurbalija . Il a soutenu que tout au long de l'histoire, les dirigeants qui ont réussi étaient des conteurs habiles, capables de construire des rêves partagés, de motiver leurs partisans sans récompense matérielle et de rendre ces rêves accessibles . Il a soutenu de manière décisive que ce pouvoir de motivation propre à la narration ne peut pas être extrait des outils d'IA : « vous ne pouvez pas l'obtenir de GPT, vous ne pouvez pas l'obtenir de DeepSeek » . Cinq méta-compétences pour l'ère de l'IA

Hong Guan, représentant de la School of Global Governance (SGG) du Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), a présenté un cadre structuré de cinq méta-compétences que son institution considère comme essentielles pour l'ère de l'IA, le qualifiant de modèle de « reconstruction » conçu pour combler le fossé entre les approches éducatives existantes et les exigences d'un monde piloté par l'IA . La première compétence est l'agilité d'apprentissage : la capacité d'apprendre à apprendre, de s'adapter rapidement et d'acquérir de nouvelles connaissances et compétences dans un environnement en rapide évolution . La deuxième est la capacité d'exécution : la capacité à fixer des objectifs, à évaluer les ressources, à prendre des décisions et à produire des résultats, développée par un apprentissage ancré dans des projets réels . La troisième est les compétences en communication, comprises non pas simplement comme la capacité à écrire et à s'exprimer correctement, mais comme la capacité à travailler efficacement dans différents contextes culturels et avec des personnes du monde entier . La quatrième est le potentiel de leadership, défini non pas comme le fait d'occuper un poste élevé, mais comme le fait d'assumer des responsabilités, de soutenir les équipes, de gérer les relations organisationnelles et d'aider les autres à avancer . La cinquième, et sans doute la plus importante, est le jugement critique : la capacité à évaluer l'information et à prendre des décisions éclairées dans un monde saturé par l'IA . Hong Guan a été claire sur la philosophie qui découle de ces cinq compétences : « l'IA ne devrait pas remplacer l'éducation. L'IA devrait nous pousser à améliorer l'éducation » . Elle a soutenu que le rôle des universités doit évoluer : il ne s'agit plus de fournir des réponses, mais d'aider les étudiants à poser de meilleures questions, à exercer un jugement sain et à agir avec responsabilité . --- #

Perspectives étudiantes : exécution, dépendance et réflexion critique

La session s'est ensuite ouverte aux contributions des étudiants. La première étudiante, issue aussi de la SGG du BIT, s'est concentrée sur la capacité d'exécution, soutenant qu'à l'ère de l'IA, la génération d'idées a été largement banalisée : « tout le monde peut utiliser l'IA pour générer de nombreuses solutions, des idées... en cinq minutes » . Le véritable défi, selon elle, est de transformer le contenu généré par l'IA en pratique concrète . Elle a décrit comment les programmes d'études internationaux de son école - incluant des visites à Genève, Vienne, en Égypte et auprès d'organisations telles que l'UIT et l'ONUDI - exigeaient des étudiants qu'ils élaborent des plans d'exécution complets avec des objectifs clairs, des évaluations des ressources et des livrables définis . Cette approche structurée et axée sur les projets, a-t-elle soutenu, produit une véritable croissance précisément parce qu'elle est exigeante . Le deuxième étudiant, un étudiant de première année à l'Université Stanford, a offert un témoignage particulièrement marquant. Il a déclaré sans détour que « l'IA est en train de ruiner l'éducation » , décrivant comment ses camarades de classe téléchargeaient des manuels entiers dans Claude ou ChatGPT la veille des examens, réussissaient « haut la main » et « oubliaient tout » le lendemain . Il a remis en question la finalité même de l'enseignement supérieur dans ces conditions : « à quoi bon être à l'université si c'est pour faire ça ? » . Il est allé plus loin, avançant un argument épistémologique percutant : ChatGPT ne comprend pas ce qu'il dit ; c'est « simplement un grand modèle de langage qui synthétise tout ce qu'on lui soumet » et « ne comprend pas une seule chose » . Sa préoccupation la plus profonde n'était pas l'emploi personnel mais systémique : « si chaque personne à Stanford et dans chaque autre université utilise l'IA, qui va générer ces nouvelles connaissances pour l'avenir de l'humanité ? » . Il a également noté la dimension culturelle du problème dans les établissements d'élite, observant que beaucoup de ses pairs étaient préoccupés par la création de startups liées à l'IA plutôt que par une véritable démarche intellectuelle . Sa contribution a été si frappante que Jovan Kurbalija a remarqué chaleureusement, avec un certain humour que la DiploFoundation pourrait envisager de la recruter, mais qu'ils ne pourraient pas rivaliser avec un salaire de Stanford . Un troisième étudiant a soulevé une préoccupation plus subtile mais tout aussi importante concernant le jugement critique. Il a observé que lorsque les étudiants posent à l'IA une question qu'ils ne comprennent pas pleinement, la réponse de l'IA leur donne souvent un faux sentiment de compréhension, les amenant à cesser de poser d'autres questions . Faute de connaissances préalables pour évaluer la réponse, ils l'absorbent passivement sans véritable compréhension . Le remède qu'il a proposé était pratique et métacognitif : les étudiants devraient s'engager dans une réflexion critique avant de consulter l'IA, en clarifiant précisément ce qui les perturbe afin de pouvoir évaluer la réponse de l'IA avec plus de discernement . Un quatrième étudiant a prolongé le thème de la communication, soutenant que l'IA n'a pas affaibli l'importance des compétences en communication, mais les a en réalité renforcées, puisque l'interaction humain-IA efficace exige désormais la capacité à formuler des instructions précises et bien structurées . --- #

Réponses institutionnelles : examens oraux et réforme de l'évaluation

Le témoignage de l'étudiant de Stanford a suscité une réponse institutionnelle immédiate de Hong Guan, qui a mis en contraste l'approche du BIT avec le modèle d'évaluation écrite qui semble prévaloir à Stanford. Elle a indiqué que le BIT n'utilise pas le modèle d'examen traditionnel ; il recourt plutôt à des examens oraux conduits en plusieurs tours de questions . Ce format, a-t-elle soutenu, rend la triche assistée par l'IA pratiquement impossible, puisque la compréhension réelle est révélée en temps réel . Jovan Kurbalija a validé cette approche en demandant directement à l'étudiant de Stanford si elle avait effectivement lu le manuel de 500 pages , et elle a confirmé que oui - illustrant implicitement que le questionnement direct distingue les véritables apprenants de ceux qui s'appuient sur l'IA. Hao Liu a renforcé ce principe au cours de la session elle-même en demandant aux étudiants de s'exprimer sans manuscrit, notant que cela révèle si les idées leur appartiennent véritablement . Jovan Kurbalija a exprimé une préoccupation plus large concernant l'environnement culturel des universités d'élite, le décrivant comme « très inquiétant si à l'Université Stanford vous avez cette obsession des startups, et non des gens qui réfléchissent » . Perspectives issues de l'aviation et des organisations internationales

Deux experts seniors de l'aviation ont offert des perspectives ancrées dans la pratique professionnelle. Catalin Radu, présenté par Hao Liu comme ancien Directeur général de l'aviation civile pour deux pays et ancien fonctionnaire de l'OACI, a défini l'IA sans ambiguïté comme « un outil à utiliser par l'être humain de manière appropriée pour obtenir de meilleurs résultats, plus efficaces, plus productifs » . Il a noté que l'IA a déjà transformé sa propre pratique professionnelle, réduisant le besoin de plusieurs assistants administratifs . Cependant, il a souligné que la vision humaine, la pensée critique et les interactions en face à face restent irremplaçables, en particulier pour les discussions stratégiques sensibles . Son message le plus urgent s'adressait aux organisations : l'adoption de l'IA doit se faire à l'échelle du système et immédiatement. « Cela devrait se passer maintenant, aujourd'hui. C'est déjà trop tard », a-t-il déclaré, soutenant que confier la responsabilité de l'IA à un seul individu désigné est totalement insuffisant . Il a décrit la préparation à l'IA non pas comme optionnelle mais comme « obligatoire » pour la survie organisationnelle . Nabil Naoumi, présenté par Hao Liu comme le plus jeune président de la Commission de navigation aérienne de l'OACI, a offert une perspective complémentaire. Il a soutenu que la plus grande valeur pratique de l'IA réside dans sa capacité à produire des ébauches et à compiler des informations rapidement, permettant aux groupes d'experts de concentrer leur énergie sur l'affinement et la prise de décision plutôt que sur la collecte d'informations . Il a fait écho à l'urgence de Catalin Radu : « si vous commencez seulement maintenant à réfléchir à l'IA, vous êtes déjà en retard. C'est une partie de notre activité quotidienne » . Il a établi un parallèle historique avec l'arrivée d'Internet il y a 25 ans , suggérant que l'adaptation aux technologies transformatrices a toujours été nécessaire. Il a également illustré à quel point l'IA a déjà pénétré l'aviation : les systèmes d'aéronefs sont désormais capables d'effectuer des atterrissages d'urgence autonomes, de communiquer avec le contrôle du trafic aérien et de poser un avion en toute sécurité si le pilote devient incapable . Il a noté que les décideurs de l'aviation envisagent activement de remplacer les deux pilotes dans un cockpit par des systèmes d'IA, compte tenu de la complexité croissante des aéronefs et de la pénurie mondiale de pilotes . --- #

Pensée critique, adaptabilité et apprentissage tout au long de la vie

Ana Paula, qui a fondé AIM Global Alliance à l'ONUDI et a également exercé les fonctions de responsable de l'innovation numérique et de l'IA avant d'occuper son poste actuel de responsable des TIC, a apporté la perspective d'une praticienne façonnée par des décennies de changements technologiques. Elle a commencé par noter que les connaissances spécifiques qu'elle avait étudiées - l'ingénierie électronique, la programmation en langage assembleur - sont largement obsolètes aujourd'hui , et que ce qui a soutenu sa carrière n'est pas une expertise technique particulière, mais un engagement envers l'apprentissage tout au long de la vie établi dès son adolescence . Son argument central était qu'à mesure que l'IA rend l'information bon marché et omniprésente, la capacité à évaluer, filtrer et prendre des décisions éclairées dans un océan de données contradictoires devient de plus en plus rare et donc de plus en plus précieuse : « la pensée critique est désormais une denrée rare parce que l'information est maintenant bon marché » . Qualités humaines et irremplaçabilité d'une humanité authentique

Maricela Muñoz, diplomate ayant une expérience dans la gouvernance internationale des sciences et des technologies et participante au programme d'apprentissage de la DiploFoundation a offert une perspective humaniste qui a complété et approfondi les contributions précédentes. Elle a soutenu que la curiosité et l'ingéniosité inhérentes à l'humanité placent les êtres humains dans une position fondamentalement forte par rapport aux machines : « notre humanité et notre curiosité seront toujours au-dessus de toute machine qui peut imiter, par exemple, la pensée critique » . Elle a noté que dans les contextes professionnels, elle recherche activement des candidats qui restent « très humains et très naturels » et utilisent la technologie comme un outil plutôt que d'en dépendre . Now, my assumption is, and I would like to hear both Chinese tradition and European tradition in science, that we learn in two ways. We learn by observing others, and this is called apprenticeship but all the great things in the history from Great China Wall to pyramids were basically built by people observing their masters and learning from their experience. This is one line, and we use it at the Diplo as AI apprenticeship, where you learn about AI by developing AI. This one idea. I think the good idea is not enough, and students must know how to set goals and use resources and make decisions and deliver results. So we try to use real text and project -based learning to share the ideas to our students. And the third one is communication skills. It's not only for... how to write correctly and how to listen, how to... speak, but also how to work with different backgrounds, different cultures, people from all over the world. So it's the most important thing in the recent years. And the fourth is leadership potential. It's not only how to get the high position like our two best friends. They're already at a high position in the UN family, but it means to take also responsibility and supporting a team and understanding instructions, managing relations in an organization and help others move forward. So it's quite high quality and reliable. And for the fifth, It's critical judgment. As Jovan said, how to let students know the critical thinking and let them have the critical judgment to everything for the AI world. I think it's most important as other force, I think, nowadays. Hi. This is not necessarily a narrative or a story, but I just wanted to share my experience of AI as a student. I'm a student at Stanford University. I just finished my first year. And I think the truth is that I feel like there's this huge AI craze everywhere, especially the past two days being here at WISES. But I feel like the truth is that AI is ruining education, because I'm at Stanford. And I will take this math class. It's called Math 51. It's a linear algebra class. And the book is about like this thick. You have to work through it in one quarter, which is 10 weeks, which is arguably a lot to work through, right? But some of my friends would, instead of kind of like going through the book page by page and spend like eight hours in the library, they would upload the entire book into Clod or ChatchVT, and then they would cross -reference it just looking at Clod the day before lecture. But then the day after the exam, they forget everything. And so I think this raises the question of like what's the point of being in school if you're just going to do this? Like what's the point? You're not really learning anything. And I feel like the truth is that AI isn't really. Driving innovation either because I feel like there's a lot of talk about. AI driving the future of innovation and the future of academia, but I feel like the truth is that AI doesn't understand what it's saying, right? I feel like AI is just a large language model that synthesizes everything that you put into it, and it literally is just a series of weights where if you put in one word, it predicts the most likely next word, and Chaj VT doesn't understand a single thing that it's saying, and the only reason it has so much knowledge is because we put so much knowledge into it, and so I guess the question is like if every person at Stanford and every person at every other university is using AI, then who's going to generate this new knowledge for the future of humanity? These are, I don't know, it's neither an analysis nor possibly a narrative, just things which came to my mind in relation with the topic. Topic, from time immemorial, pupils hate school. One of the first texts of the history of writing dating back to summer was a complaint of a pupil. I have heard during my life scores of discussion, analysis, with or without Piaget, with or without teachers, saying we should change the school system. Today, even teachers and ministers hate school. And still, when we come even here, listening to debates or lecture on AI, it is still the traditional school format. And I am not trying to make fun of that. People are not stupid. There must be deep reasons why this model cannot change. I am not sure to understand what are the reasons, but I am just impressed how permanent this system is and might still be the same in one million years. That's one thing. But maybe one element of the answer is in a few things you have been alluding to here, common sense and et cetera. There is an inbuilt tension in any society. Between two models. One, we want absolute total knowledge. One of the models was Pic de la Mirando, a Renaissance man. He knew everything. Another one, we want to become heroes of disruption and innovation, like Einstein. And these two models do not really fit together, and still we need both of them in our life. But common sense can be very useful for esprit critique, and at the same time, the theory of relativity was challenging any form of common sense. So that's all I had to say. The reason I am a bit contrarian is that as children, I have questions, and when I cannot silence the question, I prefer to live along with the question than pretending having an answer. So I have no answer to these two paradoxes. I just air them why the school system pervades even with AI. Of course, the web has changed a bit the learning model, but I don't know. But still, the... The format remains nearly intact through the century and even with the most modern technologies. And that other paradox, how can we live at the same time with a model of total established knowledge and total disruptive dreams and ambitions?
