UN-GGE third substantive session

14 Dec 2020 - 18 Dec 2020

Online

The United Nations Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on Advancing responsible State behaviour in cyberspace in the context of international security, will hold its third substantive session 14-18 December 2020.

The group was established following Resolution 73/266 (December 2018) of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with the aim to continue the work of the previous five groups. It is therefore expected to continue to study, with a view to promoting common understandings, existing and potential threats in the sphere of information security and possible cooperative measures to address them, and how international law applies to the use of information and communications technologies by states, as well as norms, rules and principles of responsible behaviour of states, confidence-building measures, and capacity-building.

The GGE held its first session in 2019, second in the early 2020 and is to submit its final report to the General Assembly in 2021.
