Web-browser Brave publishes data showing DPAs’ inadequate resources for GDPR enforcement

The web-browser Brave has released a report titled ‘Europe’s governments are failing the GDPR’, on the capacities and resources of data protection authorities’ (DPAs) in the European Union to enforce the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This report shows that only five of Europe’s 28 national GDPR enforcers have more than 10 tech specialists, while half of them have small budgets (under €5 million). Brave now calls on the European Commission to ‘launch an infringement procedure against EU Member State Governments for failing to implement Article 52(4) of the GDPR’, in equipping with inadequate resources their regulators.
