US President issues Executive order banning eight Chinese apps

US President Trump has issued an executive order to ban Alipay, CamScanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, Tencent QQ, VMate, WeChat Pay, and WPS Office from operating in the USA within 45 days. In a statement, the White House said these apps pose a national security threat. This executive order is similar to the executive orders from last year banning TikTok and WeChat, which are being contested in court.

According to Reuters, China’s commerce ministry ‘urged the United States to stop its “unreasonable suppression” of Chinese applications.’
