UNESCAP finds ‘alarming’ disparity in broadband connectivity

A new report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has found an ‘alarming disparity‘ in Internet access among countries in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the study, broadband capability and access are mainly concentrated in East and North-East Asia, and the gap between countries is widening. The report warns that this trend will continue unless ‘targeted policy interventions are put in place’.
