Turkey blocks access to Wikipedia
Turkey has blocked Wikipedia after passing a law that bans access to websites that are considered obscene or a threat to national security. According to Turkey’s communication ministry, Wikipedia ‘has become part of an information source which is running a smear campaign against Turkey in the international arena’. The ban would be lifted if Wikipedia would comply with the Turkish government’s demands. According to monitoring group Turkey Blocks is the loss of access ‘consistent with Internet filters used to censor content in the country.’
