Trump administration asks Supreme Court to reverse ruling on abortion telemedicine

The Trump administration is reported to have asked the US Supreme Court to reverse a ruling made by a Maryland federal judge that allowed mail order and telemedicine of a abortion pill during the COVID-19 pandemic. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations require the medical abortion pill, mifepristone, to be dispensed at a clinic, hospital or medical office. Chief legal officer at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a co-plaintiff in the telemedicine case, said that they have seen the undue burden and hardship that the FDA’s in person consultation requirements created during the pandemic, especially among people of color who were hit hardest by the pandemic.
