Spam emails used to distribute CryptXXX malware

Researchers at the security firm Proofpoint have detected a spam email campaign used for the distribution of the CryptXXX ransomware. According to Proofpoint, CryptXXX is one of the most prevalent ransomware variants, with widespread distribution. The spam campaign involves the sending of emails with document attachments containing malicious macros; if opened, these attachments download and install the ransomware.
