Platform tracks digital inclusion efforts by US government amid COVID-19

The National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) launched two trackers to monitor US government actions in support of digital equity during the COVID-19 crisis. The state government tracker and the local government tracker aim at documenting state and local government initiatives across three categories: a) access to the Internet – particularly at home, b) personal computers and tablets, and c) tech assistance. The documented initiatives vary between creating an online list of low-cost Internet options in Philadelphia, mandating the nixing of data caps and overcharge fees by Internet service providers by the California Public Utilities Commission, and getting a USD$23 million multisectoral digital inclusion investment aimed primarily at getting devices and home Internet service for every public school student in Detroit.
