Phillipines enrols 28 million into digital ID

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has registered more than 28 million Filipinos in the first phase for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).PhilSys was rolled out in October 2020. A mass registration to targeted low-income Filipinos. During this phase demographic information such as name, gender, date, and place of birth, blood type, and address is collected. Biometric enrolment is done is a subsequent phase, during which documents are also validated. The digital ID system is governed by the 2015 Philippine Identification System Act which aims to create a centralised national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.
