Oman collaborates with Ericsson to establish 5G and IoT CoE

Oman’s Ministry of Finance signed an agreement with Ericsson to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to facilitate the use of 5G and the Internet of things (IoT) in Oman. The Ministry of Finance also signed co-operation agreements with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and telecommunication company Omantel to establish the CoE, and another agreement with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology to conduct strategic consultation studies. The CoE is one of the components of Oman Tawazun (Offset) Programme and it will be incubated and managed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation at the Innovation Complex in Muscat. Omantel will offer telecommunications support, and Ericsson, in support of the Tawazun programme, will provide technical support, supervise training programmes, and will support the development of research projects, including projects on 5G and IoT applications.
