NIST publishes draft white paper on network behavior of IoT devices

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and its National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) published the draft white paper  Methodology for Characterising Network Behavior of Internet of Things Devices, which is open for public comment. The draft demonstrates how to use device characterisation techniques to describe communication requirements of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in support of the manufacturer usage description (MUD) project. The paper outlines the methodology for analysing the full range of IoT device network traffic behaviors that can be expected. This further allows the accurate management of network access to and from IoT devices, therefore ensuring these devices perform as intended by device manufacturers or owners. The deadline for public comments is 1 May 2020.
