New Internet Exchange Point (IXP) launched in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

On the 6 November 2019, the Internet Society (ISOC) and the Internet Service Provider Association (ISPA) of the Democratic Republic of Congo launched a new IXP (LUBIX) in Lumbumbash. The IXP will improve Internet speed, reduce access costs, and improve user Internet experience by keeping traffic local. Training, support, and equipment were provided by ISOC and Facebook.    

Senior Development Manager for ISOC Africa, Michuki Mwangi, said that they intend to transform Africans from consumers to Internet creators and innovators, by having 80% of local traffic and 20% of international traffic. Head of Public Policy for Africa, Facebook Kojo Boakye said that they were excited with the partnership.
