New Facebook dating app arrives amid privacy concerns

Facebook Dating, a matchmaking service already available in more than a dozen countries worldwide, was launched in the USA this week. According to AP, Facebook Dating profiles will be separate, but they will tap into existing features such as events and groups, as well as networks of friends to identify ‘secret crushes’. According to the Guardian, many are skeptical a company mired by numerous privacy scandals should be entrusted with helping users with the private journey of finding love. Mashable also reports that the company’s track record of both intentionally harvesting and accidentally revealing sensitive user data should be detrimental to the company in this new market.
