New domain name transfer policies in force starting 1 December

On 1 December, an updated set of policies regarding the transfer of domain names and the transfer dispute resolution processes will enter into force. The updated policies, adopted by ICANN earlier this year, will be applicable to all generic top level domain (gTLDs) and ICANN-accredited registrars and registries. The changes are mainly intended to make the transfer of domain names a more clear and secure process. For example, more clarity will be required for the steps related to confirming that both the prior and the new domain registrant are aware of the change of registrant, in order to avoid unauthorised transfers such as through domain name hijacking or other fraudulent activities.
