Malta establishes task force to develop national AI strategy
The Maltese government has announced plans to develop a national strategy on artificial intelligence (AI). According to the country’s Junior Minister for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Silvio Schembri, the purpose of the strategy would be ‘to position Malta among the top 10 countries in the world with an AI policy’. The strategy will focus on several priority areas, such as: ensuring that the technology is ethically aligned, transparent and socially responsible; identifying regulatory and fiscal measures to attract foreign investment; and identifying the necessary skill base and infrastructure to support AI. The government has created a task force to work on developing the AI strategy, with the inclusion of entrepreneurs, academics and other experts in the field.
