Loon Project to bring Internet access to remote parts of Kenya

Google’s Loon Project will be using large airborne balloons to bring Internet access to remote areas of Kenya that roughly amount to 20 000 square miles. An estimated 72% of Kenya’s population does not have access to the Internet and the balloons are expected to close the gap with 4G LTE connectivity. Measures have been taken by Kenya’s Telekom and Loon in order to assist the response of the Kenyan government to the COVID-19 pandemic. The balloons will be launched from the USA and will navigate their way to Kenya using wind currents.
