Giovanni Buttarelli, former European Data Protection Supervisor, has died
European Union data protection and privacy watchdog Giovanni Buttarelli died at the age of 62 in Italy. Buttarelli was appointed to the key oversight role for monitoring the implementation of EU privacy rules for a five year term, starting in December 2014. According to TechCrunch, prior to joining the European Commission, Buttarelli was secretary general of Italy’s data protection authority.
