Futurecasters discourse how to use technology to uphold development

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Model UN programme of Ferney Voltaire (FerMUN) organised the Futurecasters Global Young Visionaries Summit in Geneva on 8-10 January 2020. The youth-oriented conference, which was convened under the theme ‘technology for development,’ focused on bringing the voices of young people to all major ITU development discussions and activities. ‘The UN believes young people need to be engaged as equal partners in development,’ said the United Nations Secretary General’s Youth Envoy, Jayathma Wickramanayake of Sri Lanka. Today’s youth is the first genuine digital native generation and hence can contribute to overcoming chronic development barriers and old paradigms to effect lasting, transformational change as the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin marked during the opening of the conference.
