France to launch a ‘plan of action against hateful content online’

France’s Digital Minister, Mounir Mahjoubi, announced the launch of a ‘plan of action against hateful content online’ which will require online platforms to strengthen the current preventive measures for the spread of  hatespecch as well as to be transparent in the decisions involving content moderation. The plan comprises the education of citizens on online civics, a clear definition and constant revision of content regulation rules, both human and automatic control over flagging suspect content, an increased responsibility of online platforms and judicial consequences for the authors of hateful and racist content.
