FCC announces billions of dollars in awards to provide rural areas with broadband access

According to a news report the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the U.S .A has awarded in funding an amount of US$ 9.2 billion to assist companies provide reliable broadband Internet service to millions of Americans who are without access. According to the FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, the award constitutes the ‘single largest step ever taken to bridge the digital divide’. The biggest among the winners of the FCC award included LTD Broadband, Charter Communications and the Rural Electric Cooperative Consortium. Elon Musk’s SpaceX also will benefit from the funding giving it an even bigger lead in the race to build the Internet in space to connect the unserved and underserved around the world.
