Facebook and Twitter take down fake news sites before national elections

Ten days ahead the national elections, Facebook took down nine pages and six accounts engaging in ‘coordinated inauthentic behaviour’ in Bangladesh. After an internal investigation, Facebook clarified that ‘these Pages were designed to look like independent news outlets ‘ posting anti opposition content were instead found to be ‘linked to individuals associated with the Bangladesh government’. On the same day, Twitter also decided to suspend 15 accounts “for engaging in coordinated platform manipulation”
