European countries have highest online piracy rates

New research has established a ranking of countries according to their piracy rates – the percentage of the population’s Internet users that has visited piracy websites. The ranking’s top 10 is entirely made up of European countries, with Latvia topping the chart with 46%, followed by Bulgaria, Lithuania, Croatia, and Spain. The first non-European state in the list is Australia (17%) on number 12. The United States – which has the largest absolute number of ‘pirates’ – only features on the 38th place, with a piracy rate of 4.89%.
