European Commission publishes results on Data Act consultations

The European Commission (EC) has published the results of the open public consultation on the Data Act. Most respondents stated that action at the EU or national level is needed on business-to-government sharing of data for the public interest, especially for emergencies and crisis management, prevention, and resilience. The responses show that ‘while businesses engage in data sharing, data transactions are still held back by numerous obstacles of a technical or legal nature.’

The public consultation ran from 3 June to 3 September 2021. The Data Act aims to ensure fairness in the allocation of data value among actors in the data economy and to foster access to and use of data in the EU.
