Egypt pledges US$3.18 million for state digital plan

The Egyptian government endorsed a US$3.18 million fund to support the Digital Egypt Builders initiative which aims to empower the next generation of Egyptian graduates. Through this initiative, a grant is offered each year to 1000 outstanding students from the faculties of engineering, computing, electronics, communications, medicine, and sports sciences. A monitoring system will be put in place at the end of the scholarship period and the students’ completion of the graduation projects. The fund will be managed by the Ministry of Communications and Information and Technology (MCIT) in the fiscal year 2020/21 to strengthen the communications and information technology sector as part of the trend towards digital transformation and increased investments in this field. ‘Total investments allocated for the communication sector within 2020/2021 national budget mount to USD$10 bn, with a 300% increase,’ said Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Said.
