eCommerce: how the EU can protect consumers online

The Vice-Chair of EU Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection committee, Maria Grapini has in an article, expressed her opinion that since more people are shopping online in the advent of Coronavirus crises, e-commerce platforms ought to behave ethically and in a socially responsible manner. She echoed that whilst she supports e-commerce in the EU’s Single Market, she believes that it should also go along with strong legislative regimes that will ensure that products offered to consumers are of the highest quality and offer utmost safety to the consumers. Sharing her thoughts further, Grapini said “our safety and quality standards should be appropriate to the specific stages and situations. Safety, consumer protection and high-quality standards must be a trademark of the Single Market.”
